HINDSIGHTED LAW !

Professor Adaobi Obasi , Imo state commissioner for education in Nigeria banned the use of mobile phones by pupils of  primary and secondary schools. Her reason are to stem crime and instil discipline in children.I see this move as wrong and hindsighted. The law does not make it clear whether the pupils can  make use of mobile phones within  or without the school premises. To cut crime rate in the Nigerian society does not equate preventing pupils from using mobile phones as its advantages outweighs its disadvantages. The many crimes that abound in the Nigerian society are not the fault of these youngsters who need every protection and monitoring by their parents and guardians when they are not with them. Some years ago , Germany developed a special phone that will enable parents keep a check on their children. The Imo State government should look again at this ban.The causes of crime in Nigeria are largely due to corruption  and bad government. For these reasons , graduates and  the unemployed in the Nigerian society take to crime.Once the issue of unemployment and usefully engaging the youths  are solved  the crime rate would drop to some extent. The government of Nigeria is currently floating rehabilitation programmes for militants. The Imo State and entire Nigeria governments should extend  this  to  unemployed youths by way of building vocational and skill acquisation centres and giving out loans to enable these youths set up on their own.Lack of funds too has contributed to unemployment and crime.
